DIFFERENTIATED LITERACY - designed to meet student needs
Having implemented Words Their Way in a small group and 1:1 setting in a second grade classroom I recommend the program. I found the sorts simple to implement and differentiate. That said, this is a very preparation heavy intervention program. All the sorts must be printed and cut ahead of instruction. Additionally, for there to be a teachers set for modeling and 1:1 instruction, they cards for every sort will need to be laminated and cut. Storing the sorts is also a bit cumbersome. Given both of these drawbacks, I have used Words Their Way with students slightly below grade level as well as with students more than three grade levels behind and have seen quality growth in both scenarios.
